About E-Reading from Books
E-Reading from Books is a small, free set of word games built around public-domain literature. There are three ways to play:
- Guess the Author (the homepage) — a new passage is posted once a day. Read the hints, then guess the author and the title of the book it's from, six tries each, similar to Wordle.
- Practice Mode — the same guessing game, but you can play as many rounds as you want with a fresh random passage each time, instead of waiting for the next day's puzzle.
- Read a Passage — pulls a random passage and a random accent, meant to be read aloud. It started as a party game: everyone takes turns performing whatever passage and accent they're handed.
Where the text comes from
Every passage and book comes from Project Gutenberg, a library of free public-domain ebooks. Every book used here is in the public domain in the United States.
